Bernard Parks Keynotes 8th Grade Graduation

On Tuesday, June 17, former LAPD Chief, current Council member of the Eighth District, and candidate for County Supervisor, Bernard Parks, saluted our graduating class of 2008 with a special commencement address. We want to thank Councilman Parks for giving up some time
from his busy schedule to provide words of wisdom to our graduates and the audience.

The event was held for the second year at the California African American Museum in Exposition Park. Other highlights included Valedictorian Earyn McGee delivering a fantastic, inspiring speech and the Scribe Cipher's stirring musical performances.

The poise and maturity with which our 8th graders presented themselves was awesome. They lived up to all the promise held for them and made all in attendance quite proud.

Congratulations graduating 8th graders!

CLAS believes that reading is fundamental to the intellectual development of our Scribes.
During the regular school year, each Scribe is expected to read at least 20 minutes each night
independently. In addition, the English curriculum is supplemented with required summer reading. All Scribes must have both assignments completed by the 1st day of school.
