IMPORTANT NEWS: CLAS Forced to Take Furlough Days

Given the pending state budget cuts of one billion dollars in education and the CLAS current budget shortfall due to being under-enrolled, we have no choice but to take 12 furlough days in order to meet compliance with a balanced budget.

A furlough day means that there will be no school for the students, as our employees will have these days as “none work” days. The scheduled 12 furlough days are as follows:

  • Friday, January 27
  • Friday, February 10
  • Friday, February 17
  • Friday, March 23
  • Friday, March 30
  • Friday, May 4
  • Friday, May 25
  • Entire week of June 11th

For the most part, the days selected are bumped against three-day weekends or spring break. Please note that our school year will be ending one week earlier.

We are abundantly aware and hyper-sensitive to the major inconvenience these furlough days will cause in regards to childcare for many of our families. We are currently brainstorming possible alternatives to provide childcare options for those families that may need it. For instance, see the article about our Furlough Academy below.

CLAS Highlights CLAS to Offer Furlough Academy

Given the impact that upcoming furlough days could have on instruction, CLAS will be offering a Furlough Academy to keep your child's learning on track. The Furlough Academy will be led by our credentilaed teachers. The grade levels offered at each site will be based on the numbers of families that register. We are currently looking at Grades K-2 at Coliseum and grades 3-8 at Orville Wright. Note that the academy classes will be multi-age groups utilizing centers and dfferentiated instruction. Also, those participating in the school lunch program will be able to receive their meals as is customary.

The CLAS Furlough Academy will take place on the following dates

  • Friday, January 27
  • Friday, February 10
  • Friday, February 17
  • Friday, March 23
  • Friday, March 30
  • Friday, May 4
  • Friday, May 25
  • Entire week of June 11th

The cost will be $35 per day. A $30 per day early bird registration discount is available. As is a 20% discount for signing up for 5 or more days!

Get the flyer here and the registration form here.

For additional information contact the Furloufgh Academy coordinator, Stephanie Jones, at n2christ01@gmail.com or conact your school siste office manager.

Weekly Homestudy Assignments Available Online by Grade Levels and Teachers

Keeping parents and caregivers informed is one of the primary purposes of CLAS' online presence. To that end, you can stay on top of your child's homestudy assignments each and every week. Homestudy assignments will be posted weekly here. You can dowload and print so that you can monitor your child's completion of her/his daily or weekly homestudy assignments and other posted projects and tasks.

Read more about CLAS' homestudy policy.
