Learning spans.

Few would disagree with the fact that some students learn at a faster pace while others need more time to master a concept or skill. In place of traditional grade levels, CLAS will employ learning-spans (differentiated instruction and looping). These learning spans at CLAS will provide students an opportunity for learning in the subject areas of reading and math without the pressure of progressing at exactly the same pace. The learning spans are as follows (traditional grade levels with ages are noted in parenthesis): Novice (K-1 grade levels, ages 5-7), Novice II (2-3 grade levels, ages 7-9), Apprentice I (4 grade level, ages 9-10), and Apprentice II (5 grade level, ages 10-11).
